How can we help?
TDS Calculator
The TDS Calculator tells you how much tax to deduct at source when you pay a contractor, professional, landlord or other party, when to deposit it and in which return it goes.
Where to find it: Other Tools ▾ → TDS Calculator
Enter the payment
- Nature of payment (section): for example 194C contractor, 194J professional or technical fees, 194H commission, 194I rent, 194A interest, 194Q purchase of goods or 195 payment to a non-resident. A note below explains the section’s limit.
- Who is being paid: Individual / HUF, Company / Firm / LLP, or Non-resident.
- PAN given?: Yes, No (a higher rate applies), or Yes but a non-filer.
- This payment and Already paid this year to this party — used to check the single-bill and yearly limits.
- Payment / credit date.
- Amount includes GST? If the bill shows GST separately, choose Yes and pick the GST rate; TDS is then worked out on the value before GST.
Under Fine tuning you can type your own rate if you hold a lower or nil deduction certificate, and the date the TDS was actually deposited to see the interest for late deposit.
Read the result
- TDS to deduct and the rate used, the amount it was worked out on, and the net payable to the party.
- Deposit by — the due date to deposit the TDS, and Return & due date — the quarter and the due date of the TDS return (Form 26Q, 27Q and so on).
- Late interest if the deposit date is after the due date.
- How it was worked out lists each step, and a message says whether TDS is due and why. If the payment is under the limit, it says no TDS is due.
TDS sections, rates and limits change with each Budget. Use the result as a guide and confirm it with your accountant before you deduct or deposit.
